Israel Minister to London Eliahu Elath today suggested that there was no reason to be “unduly disturbed” over the current Cabinet crisis in Israel. Mr. Elath was speaking at the inauguration ceremonies of the Anglo-Israel Chamber of Commerce.
The Minister pointed out that “crisis is not new to us” and that this one is being handled according to old, established procedure. He expressed confidence that a modus vivendi would be found for dealing with the situation.
Siegfried Hoofien, head of the Anglo-Palestine Bank, who addressed the same gathering, said that Israel is following a new concept of sovereignty in extending its responsibilities “to those who have no other place to go.” He added that the Israel Government is “not blind” to the economic consequences of its policy of unrestricted immigration.
