A Congressional investigation into the shipping of American steel to the Near East for the construction of an oil pipeline which will by pass the Haifa refineries, and will permit oil to flow from Iraq to the Eastern Mediterranean without passing through Israel territory, is demanded today by the New York Daily Compass in an editorial appearing under the signature of its editor, Ted C. Thack##

Praising the Jewish Telegraphic Agency correspondent in Washington for uncovering the facts, the editorial says that while America, through contributions by private citizens, is providing strong and necessary support for Israel, the Department of Commerce is helping to destroy Israel and is thereby needlessly depriving American manufacturers and builders of steel which is in such short supply that it is allocated on a priority basis.

“It has long been the U.S. Government’s actual policy to give lip service to friendship for Israel, but to give political and economic support to the Arab countries, in which private oil interests are dominant, “the editorial states.
