The fourth war crimes case to be heard in Israel opened today with a preliminary hearing in Magistrate’s Court here. Yaacov Hoenigman, a butcher in ##, faces 16 conuts of crimes against humanity including the alleged murder of six Jews in various Nazi concentration camps.
A second Israli woman was today committed for trial on charges of being involed in crimes against humanity. The woman is Ria Hines, one-time bloc captain in the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz.
The magistrate who committed her for trial did so on the charges that she tortured women inmates of the camp by forcing them to kneel for hours on a concrets floor and hold aloft bricks. She is also accused of having struck women prisoners with whip and stick, but was cleared of charges of having killed any of the prisoners. The other Israeli woman who faces trial under Israel’s recently enacted law punishing Nazis or Nazi collaborators found on Israel territory is Elsa Trenk.
