The Vatican still favors the internationalization of Jerusalem, it was indicated here today in Osservatore Romano, the publication which mirrors the sentiments of the Holy See.

The newspaper carries a report by the Catholic News Agency that a Dutch-Canadian proposal for the extra-territoriality of the Holy Places in Palestine is based on the assumption that the Vatican merely wishes to guarantee the security of the Holy Places.

In comment, Osservators Romano declares that “it is not the first time that similar attitudes have been attributed to the Catholic Church” in relation to the Holy Places in Palestine. It adds that it appears to be “useless to recall that the Holy See thesis remains as stated in solamn pontifical documents.”
