Dr. Aron Syngalowaki, executive committee chairman of the World ORT Union, declared at a press conference today that the needs of Jews in Europe–particularly in France, Belgium and Italy–should not be underestimated. The ORT leader, who will leave for the United States shortly, reported, however, that his organization has shifted its emphasis to operations in North Africa, the Middle East and the United States.
Dr. Syngalowski stated that at present 75 percent of all youngsters now receiving ORT training are pursuing a three-year coursee and that the number of adults studying at the vocational centers maintained by the ORT is rapidly decreasing. Most Jewish boys receiving ORT instruction, he added, are displaying less interest in entering the tailoring or other needle trades fields.
