The Egyptian Government has decided to remove a restriction that denied repair facilities at Egyptian ports to ships which it has blacklisted for carrying cargo to Israel, Reuters reported today from Cairo.

The action followed recent protests to Egypt by six maritime powers — including the United States, Britain and France — against the blacklisting of vessels. Some 50 ships flying various national flags have been blacklisted since the outbreak of the Arab-Israel war in May 1948. The restriction on using repair facilities was the last one imposed, according to the Reuters report, and the first to be lifted. The raising of other bans on blacklisted vessels is forecast by this action.
