Aba Hushi, Mapai Leader, Elected Mayor of Haifa; Laborite Elected in Herzlia

Aba Hushi, Mapai leader, deputy in the Israel Parliament and secretary of the Haifa Labor Council, was today elected Mayor of Haifa by a vote of 13 to eight. He was supported by a coalition of the Mapai, Mapam, Religious Bloc and Communist Party against a General Zionist-Progressive Party-Herut line-up.

In Herzlia another Mapai candidate, Ben Zion Michaeli was elected chairman of the town’s municipal council over Progressive Party leader Dr. I. Horowitz.
