The establishment of a national organization designed to foster the study of the works of Baruch Spinoza, 17th century philosopher, was announced today by Professor Walter Bernard. The new organization, known as the Spinoza Society of America, will maintain headquarters at Long Island University.

The Society will endeavor to advance its aims by conducting courses in philosophy and psychology, by organizing study groups and fostering the publication of significant studies and research by academic philosophers and laymen.

A special aim of the society, Professor Bernard said, will be to aid in the re-establishment of the International Societas Spinozana, which flourished in many countries before World War II. It is hoped, too, he said, that this movement will make possible the restoration of the home and monuments of the philosopher destroyed at The Hague by the Nazis.
