The Executive Council of Australian Jewry today submitted to the government and to members of the Federal Parliament a list of 40 names of individuals resident in Australia who have a record of Nazi collaboration. The Council also submitted detailed arguments against the admission of 100,000 Germans into Australia in the next four years, advocated by Immigration Minister Harold Holt.
The action of the Council was preceeded by a protest wired to Minister Holt against his “continued reference to Jewish opposition against German immigration as sectional bitterness. “Terming this reference as “unfair distortion,” the Council pointed out that large-scale German immigration to Australia would be a grave security risk for the country, since records show that Nazis have entered Australia despite screening. The Council appealed to the Minister to abandon the scheme “in Australia’s best interests.”
