Prof. David Prato, Chief Rabbi of Italy, died here last night at his home, aged 69. He served as Chief Rabbi of Rome from the middle of 1936 until the end of 1939, when he resigned after Mussolini adopted an anti-Jewish policy, and settled in Jerusalem.
In 1945, he returned to Rome to resume the post of Chief Rabbi which was vacated by Dr. Israel Zolli, who was converted to Catholicism. Dr. Prato headed a Jewish school in Florence for 20 years before becoming Chief Rabbi of Alexandria, Egypt, in 1927, a position he held until he came to Rome in 1936.
