The first secretary of the Korean embassy yesterday awarded a citation to a Washington B’nai B’rith lodge in recognition of relief contributions in the form of clothing made some time ago to the women and children of Korea. The citation was presented at a luncheon of the annual meeting of the B’nai B’rith Women’s Council now taking place here.
Mrs. Truman was enthusiastically applauded at the luncheon as an honored guest. Israel’s Ambassador Abba Eban, speaking at the luncheon, paid high tribute to President Truman for his aid in the establishment of Israel. He outlined the similarities between American and Israeli democracy and conveyed the greetings of the people of Israel to the B’nai B’rith and to Mrs. Truman.
At a session of the Council today Frank N. Trager, program director of the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith accused “professional bigots with pro-fascist backgrounds” of conspiring to keep schools from teaching “democratic concepts which would make of our children good American citizens.” Washington A.D.L. director Herman Felds berg told the woman that “while bigotry has always been losing politics in America and will remain losing politics so long as Americans remain true to the democratic faith, it is unfortunate that Congress has not yet fully caught up with public opinion in this respect.”
