Eight Jewish immigrants from Persian Kurdistan, including two children, died here as the result of a collision in the harbor between a Turkish freighter and ferry which was transporting a party of 38 immigrants. Six of the Jews were drowned, while the two children died afterwards of exposure. Other members of the party are recovering in a hospital here.

This group was one of several which recently made their way to Turkey from Kurdistan. They are en route to Israel. The immigrants are being sheltered temporarily in an old synagogue in the surburbs of this city.
