Israel to Conduct Military Maneuvers; May Invite Foreign Observers to Watch “war”

The Israel Defense Army’s second annual autumn maneuvers will begin this month, it was announced here today. Foreign military observers may be invited to view parts of the maneuvers.

This year, the country-wide operation will he devoted to testing tactical methods and the working out combat problems, it was disclosed. The exercises will take the form of a “war” between two armies and the field commanders will he responsible for the development of tactics in the course of the “fighting.” Special attention will be given to air and sea combat, as well as to fighting in hilly regions.

Last year’s maneuvers wore devote a primarily to organizational problems, particularly the mobilization of the reserves and the immediate transformation of a civilian population into an army in the event of an invasion.
