Fifty students who participated in the “Israel Workshop” arranged by New York University returned to the United States after a six-week stay in Israel during which they studied various aspects of life in the Jewish state. The workshop members represented 25 leading colleges and universities in the United States.

Prof. Abraham I. Katsh, director of the workshop, said that during their stay in Israel, the American Jewish students were addressed by Premier David Ben Gurion who asked them to convey to the American people Israel’s pressing need for scientists and technicians and who expressed the hope that Americans would come in even greater numbers both to study Israel’s problems and achievements, and to share in the work of creation and upbuilding. “Mr. Ben Gurion expressed confidence that the Israeli standard of living would soon be such that settling in Israel would cease to represent any sacrifice for Jews in the more prosperous countries,” Prof. Katsh reported.
