Asserting that it represents the greatest number of Jews victimized by the Germans, the American Federation of Polish Jews today urged the holding of a referendum among the Jewish people to obtain approval of the major points of any agreement on restitution between the Jewish people and the German Government.
The Federation, which condemned last week’s conference of 20 Jewish organizations from nine countries which discussed the West German Government’s offer to negotiate on restitution, urged other Jewish groups to withhold approval from the decisions of the parley and to condemn its leadership for “its hasty call and actions.” The Federation, which said it would not approve any settlement of the “German-Jewish question without the full discussion and approval of the Jewish masses,” charged that it had not been invited to send representatives to the Agency-sponsored parley.
