Vice-president Barkley Urges Americans to Aid Jewish State

Vice-President Alben W. Barkley, speaking at a “Salute to Israel” gathering here, hailed the establishment of the independent Jewish state and urged Americans to give aid to Israel.

If the Jewish people want to build a country of their own, then “I think we ought to encourage them and help them do it,” he declared. He was introduced at the meeting by Eddie Cantor.
