A rift in the ranks of the Jewish community in England came to an end today when representatives of Liberal, Reform and Sephardic groups re-joined the Board of Deputies of British Jews after an absence of more than two years. The representatives were welcomed with a great ovation as they entered the hall where the Board was holding its meeting.
Absence from school of Jewish pupils and teachers on Jewish High Holy days has been the subject of discussion between London educational authorities and the education committee of the Board of Deputies, it was reported at the meeting today. Principals of some schools had issued orders that Jewish children must attend School on the second day of Rosh Hashanah. In some areas, Jewish teachers had difficulty in getting leave on the Holy Days. The issues are to be discussed further with the authorities.
