Premier David Ben Gurion today admitted in Parliament that new instructions would have to be issued to security and airfield officers at Lydda to cover such cases as the landing this week of one-time Nazi finance wizard Hjalmar Schacht: The Premier absolved the police sergeant who examined Schacht’s documents of responsibility. He then proceeded to express his “shame” that a number of Israeli newsmen had seen fit to interview and photograph the man who was one of Hitler’s top aides for part of his regime.
He said that this incident calls for investigation, as does the visit of Mapam deputy Chanen Ruben to Berlin and his interview there by German newsmen. (This is believed to refer to the Mapam deputy’s attendance at a meeting in Berlin of the leftist World federation of Trade Union).
