The Joint Distribution Committee has turned over from its own supplies in Italy more than four tons of food, clothing and other material to victims of the floods in Northern Italy, it was reported here today by Milton Steinberg, representative of the American Jewish relief organization.
“We hope that in some small measure this token will be accepted as an expression of the deepest appreciation and gratitude of J.D.C. and its staff for the kindness and generosity and the sympathetic understanding which the Italian people have always accorded Jewish refugees, ” Mr. Steinberg said. The J.D.C. is still providing medical, welfare and other assistance to some 3, 000 Jewish refugees in Italy, in addition to the aid given to Italian Jewish communities.
