Striking Israeli Seamen in U.S. to Leave Country in a Few Days

Download PDF for this date

The 60 Israeli seamen who struck aboard the vessels Yafo in New York and Haifa in Baltimore and were detained on Ellis Island after they were discharged by their employers are expected to leave this country for Israel in the next few days.

Their early departure will terminate any pending legal action by the immigration authorities who charge the seamen with illegal entry into the U.S. Hearings are scheduled on the authorities’ contention that since the 60 entered this country as seamen, their discharge resulted in their being here illegally.

Meanwhile, the sleet and snow that has blanketed the East Coast has interfered with the loading of the two freighters which are taking on machinery, food and other supplies for Israel.
