The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Israel Parliament today voted to empower the government to enter into immediate negotiations with Germany on the $1,500,000,000 in reparations which Israel claims for Nazi-looted Jewish property. Opposition members announced that they will appeal to the House Committee of the Parliament on the legality of the vote.
The Foreign Affairs Committee had been given a free hand by Parliament to make any decision it saw fit with regard to reparations talks with Germany. This means that today’s vote has the effect of formal Parliamentary action.
