Prof. Jacob Nahum Epstein, one of the world’s foremost scholars of rabbinic literature, died here. He was 73 years old. A native of Brest-Litovsk, Prof. Epstein studied at Vienna and later taught Talmudic philology in Germany. He joined the faculty of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem in 1926 and served as dean from 1936 to 1938. The Jewish Theological Seminary of America conferred an honorary degree upon him in 1940.
