Lebanese Parliament Rejects Proposal to Bar Jewish Officers

The Lebanese Parliament has rejected a proposal to dismiss Jewish officers from the Lebanese Army, a cable from Beirut reports. The resolution was rejected by a vote of 30 to 16.

The resolution was introduced by the Socialist deputy Emile Bustani and was supported by members of parliament opposed to the present government. Members of the Lebanese cabinet expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that that Mr. Bustani raised the issue about the presence of Jewish officers in the Lebanese armed forces.
