The Jewish Agency executive was instructed by the Zionist Actions Committee this week-end to negotiate with the Israel Government and the Israel Parliament for the adoption of a draft on the Agency’s status slightly different from the text presented by the Israel Cabinet to the Knesset for approval.
A resolution to this effect was adopted at the closing session of the Actions Committee meeting at which a draft of the Agency’s status was adopted which differs from the version of the draft proposed by the Cabinet. In closing the meeting, Joseph Sprinzak called upon all Zionist groups to strengthen the Zionist ranks, rally around the State of Israel, and disregard the small, passing divergencies and misunderstandings.
The delegation which represented the Zionist Organization of America at the session of the Actions Committee issued a statement prior to its departure for the United States declaring that “we were greatly impressed by the spirit of understanding and amity that characterized the sessions in complete contrast to the acrimony and bickering that dominated the World Zionist Congress.”
The statement declared that “with a few, regrettable exceptions, the Z.O.A. received fair, even cordial treatment.” It added that the Z.O.A. delegation, in overwhelming majority, supports president Browdy’s stand and believes “it represents the sentiment of the vast majority of the Z.O.A. membership.”
