The Jewish community of Winnipeg yesterday celebrated the 70th anniversary of the arrival here of the first sizeable group of Jewish immigrants.
The first group consisted of 24 persons–15 men, eight women and one child. The arrival of the first group, on May 26, 1882, was followed by the coming of a much larger group within a week. A total of 247 Jews, also refugees from Czarist Russia, arrived on June 1, 1882.
