All construction of permanent housing for immigrants has been suspended because of a lack of funds, the Jewish Agency announced here today. Agency circles expressed concern over the 250,000 immigrants who face life in temporary housing in the forthcoming rainy season.
It was explained that with all funds funnelled to development and production projects the budget for immigrant housing has dropped to zero. The Agency is studying alternate means of financing immigrant housing, including having immigrants participate in the financing of their own permanent homes.
