Anthony Nutting, British Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs, refused to intervene with the Israel Government to permit British nationals resident in Israel to transfer capital abroad.
The Secretary said that the Israel Government had imposed severe restrictions on the transfer of capital from the country in order to conserve foreign exchange. He pointed out that the regulations pertained to all residents of Israel, regardless of nationality, just as control regulations in the United Kingdom were imposed on all residents here. He offered to intervene only in cases of hardship which were brought to the attention of the Government.
Postmaster General Gammans reported that airmail service between Israel and Britain, which had been curtailed because of the shortage of aviation gasoline in Israel, had been returned to normal.
