Israel Will Begin Producing Steel; Will Use Negev Ore

Israel will soon become a steel-producing country, beginning with the production of 150,000 tons of steel annually, it was announced here today. Ore recently discovered in the Negev will be used.

Meanwhile, a large steel pipe manufacturing plant was dedicated yesterday at Ramleh. The machinery used in the plant was purchased with funds obtained from the United States grant-in-aid to Israel and it will be operated by Israel engineers trained by American experts. Capital invested in the plant totals 750,000 pounds.
