Amos Kinan and Shaltiel Ban Yair, the two young men charged with having bombed the apartment of Israel Communications Minister David Zvi Pinkas last month, were today free on 1,000 pounds bail. Both men are members of a group known as Canaanites, which is dedicated to restoring Israeli culture to what it was in the days of ancient Canaan.

At a hearing in magistrate’s court here this morning, the government presented 15 witnesses to support its charges against the two men, who maintained a stubborn silence before the judge. The magistrate transferred the case to the Tel Aviv District Court for trial. If convicted they face as much as life imprisonment.

The prosecutor filed an additional charge against Ben Yair–illegal possession of firearms. He faces a 10-year sentence on this charge.
