Propaganda by “humane societies” and by individuals against Jewish ritual slaughter is receiving new and wider circulation than previously, the Schechita Committee of the Board of Deputies of British Jews reported today. The committee added that eminent veterinary scientists were examining the Jewish slaughter methods and it is hoped that their report will be completed soon and will provide up-to-date evidence supporting schechita as a most humane method of slaughter.

The committee also warned religious authorities that although the most modern slaughter equipment had been installed in many areas difficulties had arisen as a result of the “unsympathetic attitude” towards schechita of some non-Jewish employees who assist in carrying out various tasks before or after slaughter. It suggested that precautions be taken to make certain that such incidents do not arise during schechita and thus encourage new attempts to ban it.
