Satisfaction was expressed here today in U.N. circles over the successful outcome of the German reparations negotiations. U.N. officials freely admitted relief that this ticklish question had been settled without recourse to the U.N. Some delegates privately voiced the belief that Germany’s recognition of her debt to the Jewish people for the suffering caused them by the Nazi regime was a welcome sign of German regeneration. Arab delegates were critical of Germany for a move which they said would strengthen Israel.
