American machinery and know-how will soon revolutionize Israel’s economy through completion of the reclamation project in the Huleh swamp region, Jacob R. Sensibar, president of the Construction Aggregates Corporation of Chicago, told a press conference here upon his return from Israel, where he signed a $4,500,000 contract with the Jewish National Fund, for drainage and reclamation of the area.
He said his firm will send American personnel and machinery to Israel to drain the Huleh swamp by the construction of channels that will reclaim 60,000 dunams of the best land in Israel, convert the lake-bottom into commercial fish ponds or agricultural areas, or both, and construct a dike completely surrounding and isolating 13,000 dunams of peat-land, which will preserve the peat as organic fertilizer and allow for its commercial development.
Mr. Sensibar quoted Bruce MacDaniel, United States Administrator of grants-in-aid to Israel, as saying that the Huleh project is destined to be the greatest factor in establishing Israel’s economy on a sound basis.
