An attack on the Italian Government’s policy towards religious minorities as a failure to enforce constitutional guarantees of religious liberty was made today at the Italian Social Democratic Party congress in Genoa. The attack followed government action in closing down the Churches of Christ, a Protestant sect.
The congress demanded that the government adopt specific laws embodying the constitutional guarantees, pointing out that the laws which still govern religious minorities in Italy are hangovers of the Fascist regime.
The delegates also paid tribute to the late Emanuele Modigliani, Jewish Socialist leader, who was exiled by Mussolini, for his fight against the dictatorship.
