The Union of American Hebrew Congregations and the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion today announced the opening of a drive for $2,265,000 for the support of the major national institutions of American Reform Judaism this year and in 1953.
Dr. Samuel S. Hollender of Chicago, general chairman of the combined campaign, said it would be conducted in 450 cities. The New York quota of $566,000 represents the largest community request. In urging support of the campaign, Dr. Hollender observed that American Reform Judaism “rests on two great pillars” –the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, which embraces 450 affiliated congregations with a membership of 500,000, and the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, “which trains and educates the rabbis, teachers and scholars to guide our people in the spirit of our religious and cultural heritage.”
