The home of Dr. Weizmann at Rehovoth, together with the surrounding gardens and lands will be turned into a national shrine and memorial to Israel’s first President, it was announced here last night.
The project will be carried out jointly by the Israel Government and the Jewish Agency. A joint statement by the Cabinet and the Agency revealed that a planning committee for the project has been named consisting of Levi Eshkol, Finance Minister, Zalman Shazar of the Agency, Abraham Granott, head of the Jewish National Fund, and Meyer Weisgall of the Weizmann Institute of Science at Rehovoth. Simon Marks, one of Dr. Weizmann’s closest friends, will head the provisional committee for the memorial.
The joint Cabinet-Agency announcement said that the memorial site will be known as ” Yad Chaim.” It will include the Weizmann Institute of Science, the Sieff Research Institute, the Hebrew University Agricultural Research Station and other cultural and scientific centers in the town as well as the late President’s home and its grounds including his grave.
