More than 4,000 German business firms have so far submitted offers of goods to the Israel “purchasing mission” in Cologne which will select the German products and services to be supplied Israel under the Bonn-Israel reparations pact, it was reported here today. Most of the offers came from West Berlin industrial enterprises.
Competent observers here believe that the Arab campaign against the Bonn Parliament’s ratification of the German-Israel reparations agreement will have no effect. They are also convinced that the Arab boycott threat against Germany will not be carried out. They point out that the Arab countries need German capital goods, and see in West Germany one of the most important markets for their own products.
The German press reports today that Gen. Mohammed Naguib, Egypt’s dictator, has received German military and technical experts who have been advising the Egyptian Government and industrialists. The report reveals that these experts include a number of former Gestapo officers notorious for their anti-Jewish roles under the Nazi regime.
Premier Naguib, the press reports point out, is very satisfied with the work of the German advisers and intends to double their number. The reports stress the fact that German trade with Egypt in 1952 reached three times the volume of 1950. They also state that special trade delegations will leave Germany this month for all Arab countries.
