Goods shipped to Israel in payment of German reparations to Israel will not be carried in German ships because of the fear of demonstrations in Israeli ports, it was stated here officially. The goods will go in either Israeli vessels or those of some third nation.
Meanwhile, government sources here have expressed disappointment over the exorbitant economic demands pressed by Egypt in the current trade talks between a West German delegation in Cairo and Arab leaders. Egyptian Premier Mohamed Naguib and other Arab leaders are pictured as demanding large credits and assistance as the price of calling off a threatened boycott of Germany if it pays reparations to Israel.
From Berlin it was reported today that the East German Government has announced the arrival of its trade delegation in Cairo for final negotiations of a trade pact. It was also reported that the official newspaper of the East German Communist Party, “Neues Deutschland,” carried a long article urging the Germans to fight the Zionist movement which was characterized as dominated by the United States and used by the U.S. as a means of infiltrating East Europe.
