Police today began a hunt for an unidentified person who sent a letter to a newspaper in East London, South Africa, attempting to incite anti-Jewish feeling. The letter, purporting to come from a Nationalist London.
When they attempted to track down the writer, they discovered that he had given a false name and address. The candidates turned the matter over to the police be cause South African electoral laws prohibit the use of false names and addresses in letters to newspapers.
The Johannesburg “Transvaler,” local Nationalist newspaper, featured a report of the incident on its front page and denounced the letter as an attempt to create bad feeling between Jews and Nationalists.
