The Jordan Government’s orders two British banks and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency to cease accepting applications from Palestine Arab refugees for the return of their assets blocked in Israel, is further proof that the Arab governments are not interested in practical measures intended to alleviate the situation of the Arab refugees, a spokesman for the Israel Embassy charged here today.

The Jordan Government has demanded that the filing of applications be halted because the Israel Government has allegedly, diverted 10 percent of the accounts into its compulsory loan and has placed sums in excess of 500 pounds in the charge of the Custodian of Abandoned Property. The Israel Government unilaterally proposed the release of 1,000, 000 pounds as a first installment of the frozen assets of the refugees.

(At the United Nations today it was learned that when the Palestine Conciliation Commission meets in New York this week, the Israeli representatives will inform the PCC that the Israel Government has not deducted 10 percent of the refugees funds for the compulsory loan. They will also point out that the transfer of large balances to the Custodian of Abandoned Property is in accordance with an agreement among the PCC, the British banks representing Israel in this transaction and the Israel Government, to make such an administrative transfer in order to facilitate the payment of funds to the refugees.)
