Indication that the new Austrian Cabinet intends to carry out the pledge of the previous government to pay reparations to Jewish victims of the Nazi regime was given here today by Chancellor Julius Raab in the first declaration made by him in Parliament on behalf of the new government.

Dr. Raab told the Parliament that the government intends to pay reparations to former residents of Austria now living abroad as foreign citizens. The Chancellor also reported that the government intends to ease the laws against former members of the Nazi party in Austria, explaining that this can be done in view of the fact that “Austrian democracy today is deeply rooted.”
