Israel Prepares for Huge Celebrations of Its Fifth Anniversary

Israel’s armed services are making preparations to participate in parades, ceremonies and military shows which will mark the celebration of Israel Independence Day, April 20, in various parts of the country. Civilian agencies are also proceeding at full speed with plans to celebrate the event.

A giant military parade is scheduled to be held in Haifa next Monday, while a night military display will be held at Ramath Gan that evening. This will include a display by parachutists, fireworks and military drills. Memorial services and meetings for the war dead will be held in synagogues and cemeteries throughout the country Saturday and Sunday.

The lighting of huge bonfires In the Judean Hills Sunday evening will signal the beginning of celebrations in settlements, towns and cities. Public halls have been arranged in all cities while the smaller towns and settlements have prepared outdoor areas for public folk dancing. Official receptions will also he held in the capital and major cities and in the Negev even Bedouin tribes will celebrate the day.
