American Jews were urged today “not to slacken” in their support of Israel at a press conference addressed by Moshe Rosetti, Secretary-General of the Israel Parliament, who has come to the United States to take part in the nationwide United Jewish Appeal campaign.

“Despite Israel’s present serious economic difficulties and the great sacrifices being made by all the people, we will not hesitate to make further sacrifices if more of our fellow Jews are enabled to come into our country,” Mr. Rosetti said. He emphasized the fact that “UJA assistance to Israel is of paramount importance in helping us to prepare for all events.”

Discussing Israel’s present economic problems, Mr. Rosetti said: “On the whole, the situation of the people right now is bleak, but the economic horizon is bright. The number of unemployed will be cut as soon as our present back-to-the-land movement is completed and city workers are fitted into the agricultural economy.

“We are going through a period of re-adjustment. We are concentrating on our main efforts and energies on achieving greater agricultural and industrial productivity. This is essential to the creation of a stable economy. To do it swiftly and successfully, we must for a while longer have the support of all our friends through the United Jewish Appeal.”
