A Nazi war criminal known either as Hopps or Salchow has been arrested today in the Ruhr and charged with having maltreated and ordered the execution of thousands of Jews while he was commandant of a concentration camp in Eastern Germany. Hoppe-Salchow managed to avoid apprehension until now by changing his identity frequently.

Heinz Siepen, one of the Nazi conspirators arrested by the British last January and turned over to the German courts for prosecution a month ago, has been released from custody. Siepen was formerly the local Nazi Party boss in the Ruhr steel town of Solingen and during the war was appointed overlord of a county in German-occupied Eastern Poland.
