A number of settlers were injured in severe clashes which broke out between Mapai and Mapam members in the collective settlement of Iftach after the majority voted to secede from Kibbutz Hameuchad, Mapam’s federation of settlements, and join Ichud Hakibutzim, Mapai’s association of settlements.

Strong reinforcements from both sides arrived from neighboring settlements, but more than 100 policemen were on the spot and ordered the outsiders to leave the colony. The Mapam members refused to comply with the order and attempted to prevent the arrest of some of the Mapam members. Order was finally restored by the police.
