Danish General Succeeds Riley As U.N. Palestine Truce Chief

Major Gen. Vagn Bennike of Denmark has been appointed Chief of Staff of the United Nation truce supervision organization in Palestine to succeed Lt. Gen. William E. Riley, who resigned effective May 15, it was announced here today by UN Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold.

The 65-year-old veteran of Denmark’s engineering and telegraphic corps will proceed to Jerusalem to take up his new duties on June 17. Gen. Riley remained at his post beyond the effective date of his resignation to give the UN time to find his successor.
