Dr. Emanuel Neumann, member of the Jewish Agency executive and former ZOA president, today declared that “the people of Israel are, on the whore profoundly pro-American in sympathy, but feel that is no reason why they should be called upon to make undue concessions to hostile neighbors whose friendship to America and loyalty to the democratic world are not so certain.”

Dr. Neumann, who returned from a lengthy stay in Israel, addressed a special meeting of Zionist leaders in New York City today under the chairmanship of Rabbi Irving Miller, president of the Zionist Organization of America. Asserting that “Israel is ready to contribute all it can toward peace and stability in the Near East,” he emphasized that “it cannot be expected to make sacrifices affecting its sovereignty, security or territorial integrity.”

Commenting on the recent visit to Israel of Secretary of State Dulles and Harold Stassen, United States Director for Mutual Security, Dr. Neumann Stated that “the Israeli leaders were left in some doubt as to the precise policy or policies which the Eisenhower Administration intends to pursue in the Middle East.”
