At least one of the six men arrested during the night by Israeli police following the trail of the “nameless” religious national terrorist organization was connected with the bombing of the Soviet Legation in Tel Aviv earlier this year, the police claimed today. The Soviet Union broke off diplomatic relations over the bombing.
Others among the six arrested men were connected with the throwing of explosives into the Czech legation a half year ago, the police added. In addition, two more arms caches were uncovered last night.
Meanwhile, military court yesterday issued orders for the detention of five of the 23 arrested men on charges of violating the military code. The five are: Dov Parshan, Mordechai Freund and David Blau–who are also being held on civil charges–and Jacob Blumenthal and Yecheskiel Mizrachi.
Applying for the orders, which provide for the detention of the five for 15 days, the chief army prosecutor said that investigations based on the documents seized by the police may take many months. He declared that the preliminary examination of the papers indicate the existence of a dangerous plot against the state.
Council for Persian, Russia Cohen, a former district judge, argued that the detention of the’ five on the basis of the government’s proclamation of the existence of a terrorist organization was illegal. He added that the government had no evidence against the five men.
