Mccarran Threatens to Delay Congress Adjournment over

Sen. Pat McCarran, bitter foe of### Eisenhower’s legislation to admit 240,000 over-quota refugee immigra### years, this week-end threatened to delay the adjournment of Congress, ### for July 31, if the measure is brought to the Senate floor. The bill is ### come to the floor late this week.

Earlier, the Senate Judiciary bill reported out the measure in an e### vote. In the compromise form in which the bill was passed, it reduces### number of immigrants from 240,000 to 220,000 and provides for two n### of immigrants to be included: 4,000 orphans, and 5,000 persons who c### country legally but fear to return to their homelands in the Communist ### of Europe.
