Dr. Lowdermilk Appointed Head of New Dept. at Haifa Technion

The Haifa Technion yesterday announced the appointment of Dr. Walter Clay Lowdermilk, outstanding American authority on soil conservation, as director of the Technion’s new Department of Agricultural Engineering.

The new department will teach soil and water conservation, food control. rural electrification, settlement planning and farm machinery. Dr. Lowdermilk, known for his famous “Lowdermilk Plan” suggesting the creation of a Jordan Valley Authority, has been serving as a consultant on soil conservation to the Israel Government for the last two years. He retired in 1947 as Assistant Chief of the United States Soil Conservation Service.
