Jewish Groups Confer with Canadian Officials on Immigration

Representatives of the Canadian Jewish Congress, Jewish Immigration Aid Society and the Joint Distribution Committee conferred with Canadian immigration officials recently over operations of the Canadian immigration mission in Germany and Austria and procedures under which refugee immigrants apply for admission to Canada.

Among the problems considered were the probable number of prospective immigrants who will be sponsored by the JDC and HIAS. The Jewish representatives presented the government officials with a detailed listing of expected immigrants from Belgium, France, Italy, Germany and Austria. The Canadian officials criticized some of the practices of visa applicants and new procedures were agreed upon. The problem of “hard core” immigrants was left for further discussion at the policy level.
